Established in 1935, the National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency that protects employees, employers, and unions from unfair labor practices and protects the right of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve wages, benefits and working conditions. The NLRB conducts hundreds of workplace elections and investigates thousands of unfair labor practice charges each year. Region 12 serves areas in Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands from its Regional Office in Tampa, its Subregional Office in San Juan, and its Resident Office in Miami.

Comments requested on proposal to close NLRB Jacksonville office; Resident Agent would service area

National Labor Relations Board General Counsel Richard F. Griffin, Jr. announced that he is considering a proposal to close the Agency’s office in Jacksonville, Florida.  The Jacksonville office handles cases in Northern Florida and Southern Georgia, and is part of Region 12, which also has offices in Tampa, Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Toys for Tots

This past December, the staff of the Miami Resident Office collected Toys for Tots.  In this picture, from left to right, legal intern Erik Willman, Senior Field Attorney Karen Thornton, Senior Field Attorney John King, Resident Officer Pam Scott, Office Assistant Ed Ramos, and Coop Intern Alissa Hazy.  We thank Alissa and Karen for coordinating this event.

Settlement ends long-running dispute at Florida performing arts center

NLRB Regional Director Margaret J. Diaz today approved the resolution of all pending litigation in a long-running dispute between the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. in West Palm Beach, FL, and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, AFL-CIO, Local 500.

The resolution provides for approximately $2.2 million in backpay to 248 employees who were unlawfully denied employment over more than a decade. The money is to be paid in two installments, the first of which is due by January 15, 2013 and the second of which is due by January 15, 2014.

David Cohen appointed Regional Attorney of the NLRB's Regional Office in Tampa, FL

National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Acting General Counsel Lafe Solomon announced the appointment of career employee David Cohen as Regional Attorney of the NLRB's Regional Office in Tampa, Florida (Region 12). In his new position, Mr. Cohen will assist Regional Director Margaret J. Diaz in the processing of representation and unfair labor practice cases filed under the National Labor Relations Act in 55 counties in Florida and 21 counties in southern Georgia.
