Established in 1935, the National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency that protects employees, employers, and unions from unfair labor practices and protects the right of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve wages, benefits and working conditions. The NLRB conducts hundreds of workplace elections and investigates thousands of unfair labor practice charges each year. Region 1 serves areas in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont from its Regional Office in Boston and Subregional Office in Hartford.
John J. Walsh, Jr. Named Regional Director for NLRB's Boston Office
National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Chairman Mark Gaston Pearce and General Counsel Richard F. Griffin announced the appointment of John J. Walsh, Jr. as Regional Director of the National Labor Relations Board's Region 1 with offices in Boston, MA and Hartford, CT.
Boston Training on New NLRB R Case Rules
The MBA Labor & Employment Law Section Council and the ABA Regional Subcommittee on Practice & Procedure under the National Labor Relations Act will host a training session on the New NLRB R Case Rules on Monday, April 13, 2015, at 12:30 p.m. The session, which will be held at the MBA offices located at 20 West St. in Boston, will be conducted by NLRB Region One Regional Director Jonathan Kreisberg, Deputy Regional Attorney Robert Redbord, and Supervisory Attorney Laura Sacks. Hartford Training on New NLRB R Case Rules
In order to assist the Labor Bar to become familiar with the new Representation (“R”) case rules, the Labor and Employment Section of the Connecticut Bar Association has scheduled a briefing session with Michael Cass, Officer in Charge, of NLRB Subregion 34, and Jonathan B. Kreisberg, Regional Director, NLRB Region One. The session will be held on April 8, 2015 at the Subregional offices located in the AA Ribicoff Federal Building at 450 Main Street Hartford, CT beginning at 10AM. It is anticipated that the presentation and discussion will continue until Noon.

Michael C. Cass Named Officer-in-Charge in Hartford, Subregion 34
National Labor Relations Board Chairman Mark Gaston Pearce and General Counsel Richard F. Griffin, Jr., today announced the appointment of Michael C. Cass as Officer-in-Charge for Subregion 34, Hartford, Connecticut.
A career NLRB employee, Mr. Cass had been serving as a Supervisory Field Examiner in the Hartford office. In his new position, he will assist Jonathan B. Kreisberg, Regional Director in Region 1, Boston, Massachusetts, in the enforcement and administration of the National Labor Relations Act in Connecticut. Mr. Cass succeeds John S. Cotter, who is retiring.

Paul J. Murphy
Paul Murphy was appointed Regional Director of the Buffalo Regional Office (Region 3) in 2017. He began his career with the National Labor Relations Board as a co-op Field Examiner in Cleveland (Region 8) in 1979 and returned there as a full-time employee in 1980. He transferred to Region 3 in 1982. He was promoted to Supervisory Examiner in 1997 and Region 3's Assistant to the Regional Director in 2007.
