Established in 1935, the National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency that protects employees, employers, and unions from unfair labor practices and protects the right of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve wages, benefits and working conditions. The NLRB conducts hundreds of workplace elections and investigates thousands of unfair labor practice charges each year. Board finds New York State construction company violated labor law by unilaterally withdrawing from collective-bargaining obligations
The National Labor Relations Board has ruled that a Phelps, New York, construction contractor violated federal labor law when it unilaterally stopped applying the terms and conditions of a collective-bargaining agreement reached between the Ironworkers union and an employers’ association to which the contractor belonged.
Albany newspaper settles with Guild following Board decision; three laid-off employees reinstated, all receive back pay
The Times Union of Albany has agreed to offer reinstatement to three employees and to pay more than $800,000 in backpay and interest to a total of 11 employees who were laid off by the newspaper in the fall of 2009 in order to settle a case taken up by the National Labor Relations Board.
Administrative Law Judge finds New York nonprofit unlawfully discharged employees following Facebook posts
In the first ruling of its kind, a National Labor Relations Board Administrative Law Judge has found that a Buffalo nonprofit organization unlawfully discharged five employees after they posted comments on Facebook concerning working conditions, including work load and staffing issues.
Regional News: NLRB Judge finds recurring unlawful interference, orders third election at New York egg processing plant
An administrative law judge has found that supervisors at a Woodbridge, New York egg processing plant violated federal labor laws by interfering with a rerun NLRB-conducted election, and ordered that a third election be held. Charges were filed by the United Food and Commercial Workers, Local 342.
