Established in 1935, the National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency that protects employees, employers, and unions from unfair labor practices and protects the right of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve wages, benefits and working conditions. The NLRB conducts hundreds of workplace elections and investigates thousands of unfair labor practice charges each year. Region 2 serves areas in New York from its Regional Office in New York City.
New Representation Case Rules Outreach Event
On May 27, 2020, the Manhattan Region of the National Labor Relations Board hosted an Outreach training session via teleconference, to answer questions and discuss the new modifications to the Agency’s 2014 amendments to its representation case procedures. The modifications, scheduled to take effect May 31, 2020, include clarifications to procedures prior to an election that better ensure the opportunity for litigation and resolution of unit scope and voter eligibility issues.
Record Backpay Award in CNN Case
On January 10, 2020, the National Labor Relations Board, CNN America, Inc., and Local 11 and Local 31 of the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians (NABET), Communications Workers of America (CWA), AFL-CIO, signed a settlement in which CNN agreed to pay $76 million in backpay, the largest monetary remedy in the history of the National Labor Relations Board.
Suzanne Sullivan Named Regional Attorney for NLRB’s Region 2, Manhattan Office
National Labor Relations Board General Counsel Peter B. Robb announced the selection of Suzanne Sullivan as the Regional Attorney of the NLRB’s Regional office in Manhattan (Region 2).
In her new position, Ms. Sullivan will assist Regional Director John J. Walsh, Jr., in the administration and enforcement of the National Labor Relations Act, serving the boroughs of Manhattan and the Bronx, and the counties of Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester.
