Welcome to Region 13 of the National Labor Relations Board. We conduct elections, investigate charges of unfair labor practices, and protect the rights of workers to act together, serving parts of Illinois and Indiana from our office in downtown Chicago. If you have questions or wish to file a charge or petition for election, please visit our office or call and ask for the Information Officer on duty. We can arrange to have someone speak with you in the language of your choice. We are also happy to provide speakers and materials to promote a greater understanding of the National Labor Relations Act.

A U.S. District Court Judge has ordered a Chicago bus company to reinstate two drivers who were fired after signing cards in favor of a union election, and to stop questioning employees about their union activities, while a case involving the company moves through the NLRB process.

NLRB Chairman Mark Gaston Pearce and Acting General Counsel Lafe E. Solomon have announced the appointment of Peter Sung Ohr as Regional Director in the Chicago Regional Office (Region 13).  Mr. Ohr will be responsible for the enforcement of the nation’s primary labor law covering private sector employees in Cook, Du Page, Kane, Lake, and Will Counties in Illinois, and Lake County in Indiana.

A National Labor Relations Board Administrative Law Judge ruled on Wednesday that Knauz BMW, a Chicago area car dealership, did not wrongfully terminate an employee for his Facebook postings. However, Judge Joel P. Biblowitz also found that the dealership had an overly broad employee policy, and ordered posting of a notice informing employees of their right to engage in protected concerted activity.

At the request of the National Labor Relations Board, a U.S. District Court has ordered an Illinois gas hauling company to recognize and bargain with the union representing its drivers, even though the original company closed and its operations were transferred to a non-union entity owned and managed by the same people. The injunction, issued July 11 by District Court Judge Robert M. Dow, Jr., also compels the company to restore the union pay and benefits that the drivers lost in the transfer, pending final resolution of the case before the Board.
