Maintenance and production employees at two RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. facilities in North Carolina voted against union representation this week in an NLRB-supervised secret ballot election.
The tally of ballots early Friday found 686 votes against and 556 in favor of union representation. The election was sought jointly by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and the Bakery, Confectionary, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union. A total of 1324 workers were eligible to vote.
Field examiner Ingrid J. Jenkins coordinated the two-day election and predawn ballot count with the assistance of field examiners Jodi S. Cunningham, Emily Labriola and Ben Johnston, field attorney Sarah Bencini, and assistants Jacqueline K. Jones, Neneth Zink and Kevin Crawford.
