Region 31 Contributes to the Workplace Justice Summit III

On September 7, 2016, Region 31 participated in the third edition of the Workplace Justice Summit, spearheaded by the California Department of Fair Employment & Housing, the UCLA Labor Center, and local community organizations and worker centers. The Summit focused on discrimination and retaliation in the workplace. Regional Director Mori Rubin spoke during the Summit’s opening plenary along with representatives from the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the Department of Labor, the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission, and the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement. The panelists discussed the history of anti-discrimination and retaliation laws, changes over time, and each agency’s jurisdiction and processes. Supervisory Field Attorney Joanna Silverman participated by presenting information about protected concerted activity under the National Labor Relations Act.
