Today, the National Labor Relations Board General Counsel Jennifer A. Abruzzo announced the appointment of Joanna Silverman as the Regional Attorney of Region 31-Los Angeles. With the Regional Office in Los Angeles, Region 31 is responsible for conducting elections, investigating unfair labor practice charges, and protecting the rights of employees in parts of southern California. In her new position, Ms. Silverman will assist Regional Director Mori Rubin in the administration and enforcement of the National Labor Relations Act.

A native of Los Angeles, California, Ms. Silverman graduated from Haverford College in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and a Minor in Spanish. In 2005, she received her Juris Doctor from UC Davis School of Law and, later that year, began her career with Region 31 as a Field Attorney. She was promoted to Supervisory Field Attorney in 2012.

Established in 1935, the National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency that protects employees, employers, and unions from unfair labor practices and protects the right of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve wages, benefits and working conditions. The NLRB conducts hundreds of workplace elections and investigates thousands of unfair labor practice charges each year. Region 31 serves areas in California from its Regional Office in Los Angeles.
