National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Chairman Mark Gaston Pearce and General Counsel Richard F. Griffin, Jr. announced the appointment of career employee Nancy Wilson as Regional Director of the Agency’s Office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (Region 6). Ms. Wilson succeeds Robert Chester, who retired last year. In her new position, Ms. Wilson will be responsible for enforcement of one of the nation’s primary labor laws covering private sector employees in western Pennsylvania, counties in northern West Virginia; Garrett and Allegany Counties in Maryland and Highland County in Virginia.
Ms. Wilson, a native of New Jersey, received her Bachelor of Arts degree from William Patterson College and her Master’s degree from Rutgers University, Graduate School of Industrial Relations. She began her 27 year career as a Field Examiner with the NLRB in its Newark, New Jersey office. After 17 years in the Newark office, Ms. Wilson transferred to then Region 11 (Winston-Salem) where she continued working as a senior Field Examiner. In 2006, she was promoted to the Supervisory Field Examiner position. In 2013, she was promoted to the Assistant to the Regional Director position in Region 10 (Atlanta), which, in addition to the Regional Office in Atlanta, also includes a Sub-regional Office in Winston-Salem and two Resident Offices in Birmingham, AL and Nashville, TN.
The NLRB is an independent federal agency enforcing the National Labor Relations Act, which guarantees the right of most private sector employees to organize, to engage in group efforts to improve their wages and working conditions, to determine whether to have unions as their bargaining representative, to engage in collective bargaining, and to refrain from any of these activities. It acts to prevent and remedy unfair labor practices committed by private sector employers and unions.
