Matt Denholm named Regional Director for Region 9

Office of Public Affairs

Washington D.C. – National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Chairman John F. Ring and General Counsel Peter B. Robb announced the appointment of Matthew T. Denholm to serve as the Regional Director for the Agency’s Region 9 Office in Cincinnati, Ohio. Region 9 is responsible for conducting elections, investigating unfair labor practice charges, and protecting the right of workers to act collectively to improve their wages and working conditions in parts of Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia.

A native of Akron, Ohio, Mr. Denholm served in the United States Air Force as a Vietnamese linguist from 1970 to 1974.  He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Akron in 1977 with a degree in Political Science.  Mr. Denholm began his career with the Agency as a Field Examiner in 1977 and was promoted to Compliance Officer in 2000.  Thereafter, he was promoted to Supervisory Examiner in 2001 and to his prior position as Assistant to the Regional Director in 2014.  He also served as Acting Director of Region 9 from June 2018 through August 2019.

Established in 1935, the National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency that protects employees and employers, and unions from unfair labor practices and protects the right of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve wages, benefits and working conditions. The NLRB conducts hundreds of workplace elections and investigates thousands of unfair labor practice charges each year.
