Today, the NLRB announced the appointment of Jamal M. Allen as the Associate General Counsel in the NLRB’s Ethics Office and the Agency’s new Designated Agency Ethics Official (DAEO).

In his role, he will advise senior leadership on ethical issues and will manage the Ethics Office, which is responsible for providing comprehensive guidance in response to ethics questions. The office also provides a wide array of training products and resources, which interpret and explain both legal and government ethics topics and obligations.

Jamal began his career with the NLRB in Region 16 as a Field Attorney in the San Antonio Resident Office from 2001 to 2007, and then in the Houston Resident Office from 2008-2013.  Jamal joined the Agency’s legal ethics staff in July 2013 as Special Ethics Counsel and then Independent Special Ethics Counsel.  Since 2017, Jamal had served as the Agency’s Alternate Designated Agency Ethics Official where he assisted the DAEO in running the day-to-day legal and government ethics program for the NLRB.

“Jamal Allen has long demonstrated exceptional integrity, judgment, and dedication to the mission of this Agency,” said General Counsel Crystal Carey. “His leadership of the Ethics Office will strengthen our commitment to ethical excellence and ensure that our employees receive the guidance and support they need to uphold the highest standards of public service.”

“Agency employees rely on the Ethics Office to ensure that they serve the American people with the utmost integrity,” said Chairman James Murphy. “I have every confidence that Jamal Allen will lead that Office with sound judgment and candor, upholding the Agency’s strong ethical culture at every level.”

Jamal received a Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas School of Law where he was a Robert S. Strauss Scholar and a Bachelor of Arts cum laude in government from the University of Texas at Austin.
