James R. Macy

James R. Macy was sworn in as a Member of the National Labor Relations Board on August 17, 2026, serving a term that will conclude on August 27, 2030. He was nominated by President Donald J. Trump on April 13, 2026, and confirmed by the United States Senate on August 7, 2026. 

Prior to his appointment, Member Macy served as Director of the Office of Workers' Compensation Programs (OWCP) and Acting Administrator of the Wage and Hour Division at the U.S. Department of Labor.

Member Macy’s career in labor law began as an intern in the Office of the Solicitor at the U.S. Department of Labor in Chicago while attending the University of Wisconsin Law School. Following graduation, he practiced labor and employment law for more than four decades at several prominent Milwaukee law firms, where he also served in leadership roles as a board member, practice section chair, and team leader.

Throughout his legal career, Member Macy represented clients on a broad range of labor and employment matters, including the National Labor Relations Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, collective bargaining, workers' compensation, unemployment compensation, and related workplace issues. 

In addition to his legal practice, Member Macy has served numerous leadership and governance roles with educational and arts foundations, athletic organizations, and nonprofit groups dedicated to enhancing opportunities and improving the quality of life for individuals with diverse abilities. 

Member Macy received his B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and his J.D., from the University of Wisconsin Law School.
