Kathy Drew King Named Deputy Associate General Counsel in the Division of Operations-Management

Washington, D.C. – National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) General Counsel Jennifer A. Abruzzo announced the appointment of Kathy Drew King as Deputy Associate General Counsel for the Division of Operations-Management. With over 30 years of service to the National Labor Relations Board, Kathy Drew King most recently served as the Regional Director in the Brooklyn, NY Regional Office (Region 29). In her new role, she will assist Operations in managing the Agency’s 48 field offices across the 26 Regions and will provide programmatic support for national enforcement and administration of the Act.
“Kathy has proven to be an invaluable leader during her tenure in Region 29,” said General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo. “I am certain she will continue to excel in her new role and will undoubtedly work every day to support each of our Regional Offices to fully effectuate the National Labor Relations Act.”
A native of Washington, D.C., Ms. King received both her B.A. in Economics and J.D. from Howard University in 1979 and 1982, respectively. She began her career as an attorney at the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board where she served from 1983 to 1991. Ms. King also worked as the Associate Executive Counsel at the U.S. Department of Labor, Benefits Review Board from 1991 to 1992 before she joined the NLRB. She rose from Senior Field Attorney to Supervisory Attorney in 2012. In 2014 she became the Regional Attorney for the Brooklyn, NY office. Ms. King later was selected for her prior position of Regional Director in 2016.
The NLRB is an independent federal agency enforcing the National Labor Relations Act, which guarantees the right of most private sector employees to organize, to engage in group efforts to improve their wages and working conditions, to determine whether to have unions as their bargaining representative, to engage in collective bargaining, and to refrain from any of these activities. It acts to prevent and remedy unfair labor practices committed by private sector employers and unions.
Established in 1935, the National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency that protects employees from unfair labor practices and protects the right of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve wages, benefits and working conditions. The NLRB conducts hundreds of workplace elections and investigates thousands of unfair labor practice charges each year.
