Welcome to Region 22 of the National Labor Relations Board. We conduct elections, investigate charges of unfair labor practices, and protect the rights of workers to act together, serving northern New Jersey from our office in Newark. If you have questions or wish to file a charge or petition for election, please visit our office or call and ask for the Information Officer on duty. We can arrange to have someone speak with you in the language of your choice. We are also happy to provide speakers and materials to promote a greater understanding of the National Labor Relations Act.

News From the Region

Region 22 Director J. Michael Lightner issued a Complaint and Notice of Hearing against Pomptonian Food Service located in Verona, New Jersey on March 28, 2013.  The charge was filed by Service Employees International Union, Local 32BJ.  The Complaint alleges the Employer violated Section 8(a)(5) of the Act by failing and refusing to bargain collectively with the Union for a successor collective bargaining agreement covering a bargaining unit of food service workers.  A Hearing before an Administrative Law Judge is scheduled to take place in the Region 22 office on May 21, 2013.

On April 19, 2013, the National Labor Relations Board certified the New York City District Council of Carpenters as the bargaining agent for more than 1,000 New York and New Jersey based dockbuilders and related craft workers employed by approximately 150 employers.  Follow this link for the story and a description of the bargaining unit.

In an election conducted April 7 and 8 by the Newark office of the National Labor Relations Board, health care employees at medical facilities in Millburn, Wall and Toms River, New Jersey, voted against an attempt to decertify their union, PEMSA – Professional Emergency Medical Services Association.

Region 22 issued a complaint against Conti Enterprises, Inc. on February 19, 2013.  The complaint alleges that Conti Enterprises, a company that provides infrastructure development services,  violated the National Labor Relations Act when it discharged an employee working at its Kearny, New Jersey jobsite in retaliation for the employee assisting a Union and engaging in protected, concerted activities.  A trial before an Administrative Law Judge is scheduled for April 2, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at the Region 22 office.
