Regional Director

Welcome to Region 13 of the National Labor Relations Board. We conduct elections, investigate charges of unfair labor practices, and protect the rights of workers to act together, serving parts of Illinois and Indiana from our office in downtown Chicago. If you have questions or wish to file a charge or petition for election, please visit our office or call and ask for the Information Officer on duty. We can arrange to have someone speak with you in the language of your choice. We are also happy to provide speakers and materials to promote a greater understanding of the National Labor Relations Act.

News From the Region

The Employer is a temporary employment agency that provides short and long term employment assignments.  The terminated employee worked as a long term picker for the Employer.  The terminated picker and her fellow pickers observed a stocker employee being discharged.  The pickers gathered together and requested an explanation for the stocker’s termination from their supervisor.  The supervisor informed the pickers that the stocker employee was terminated because of his attitude and his inability to maintain a brisk work pace. 

On January 31, 2013, the NLRB’s Chicago Regional Office issued a Complaint against Lintrac, a corporation engaged in the maintenance and repair of tractor trailer chassis and box cars in Northlake, Ill.  The complaint alleged that Lintrac unlawfully fired its employees. Throughout the entire investigation of the charge and even after the Complaint issued, the Employer refused to acknowledge and respond to the allegations.

The Board invites the filing of briefs in order to afford the parties and interested amici the opportunity to address issues raised in Northwestern (Case 13-RC-121359). 

On April 24, 2014, the Board granted Northwestern University’s request for review of the Regional Director’s decision finding the University’s grant-in-aid scholarship football players are employees under the NLRA and directing an election to take place.  The election was held on April 25, 2014, but the ballots have not been counted.

The National Labor Relations Board has granted Northwestern University’s Request for Review of the Regional Director’s March 26, 2014 decision in 13-RC-121359.  The Regional Director found the University’s grant-in-aid scholarship football players are employees under the National Labor Relations Act. The election will take place on April 25, 2014 but the ballots will be impounded until the Board issues a decision affirming, modifying or reversing the Regional Director’s decision.
