J. Michael Lightner was appointed Regional Director of the Newark, New Jersey Regional Office (Region 22) in 2007. Mr. Lightner began his NLRB career in 1973 as a Field Examiner in Region 22. He was appointed to the position of Supervisory Examiner in 1978, then to Supervisory Attorney in 1981, later Regional Attorney for the Manhattan Regional Office (Region 2) in 1986. Mr. Lightner returned to the Newark Office in 1987 as Regional Attorney. A native of Fort Worth, TX, Mr. Lightner earned his B.A. degree from Lafayette College in 1972 and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the Seton Hall University School of Law in 1978. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association and a co-chair of its NLRB Practice and Procedure Committee, anda Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. Mr. Lightner is a founding member, Master of the Bench, and former Executive Director of the Sidney Reitman Labor and Employment Law American Inn of Court; the only American Inn of Court to specialize in labor and employment law. In 1998, he received a Hammer Award from former Vice-President Al Gore for his work on the Agency’s Impact Analysis Task Force and in 2000 was one of the first Agency employees selected by the ABA Labor and Employment Law Section as a Government Fellow for that Section.
