Outreach for Southwest Open School

Event Date:
01/19/2012 - 11:00am

On 1/19/12, FA Angie Berens and FX Dan Robles planned an outreach event for 15 high school students from Southwest Open School in Cortez, CO.  The students visited the Regional Office as part of a week-long field trip to Denver for their History of Labor class. The 2-hour presentation consisted of a brief history of the agency, pictures from the 75th anniversary website, clips from the movie Bread and Roses and a discussion of the Justice for Janitors campaign from the 90’s, a mock representation election and a mock consolidated trial and objections hearing.  FA Isabel Saveland also assisted in running the mock election.  The students volunteered for roles in the mock election and trial, and they asked questions and were engaged throughout the presentation.
