Northwest Arizona Human Resource Association Conference
On June 9, 2011, Deputy Regional Attorney Paul R. Irving and Compliance Officer Miguel Rodriguez gave presentations to a meeting of the Northwest Arizona Human Resource Association (NWAHRA) in Kingman, Arizona. Their presentations included an overview of the National Labor Relations Act; a description of Region 28’s boundaries and the Agency’s jurisdiction; an outline and summary of employees’ Section 7 rights and an overview of unfair labor practices; a more detailed discussion of Section 8(a)(1) violations, including those related to protected concerted activities and employee handbooks; case law developments; and an outline of law and procedure in the Compliance area, including a discussion of recent changes and recommended best practices. The presentations, made to approximately 35 human resource professionals from throughout Northwestern Arizona, included an engaged question and answer period. Though virtually all of the employers represented at this function had not previously had occasion to respond to or file unfair labor practice charges, the feedback received reflected that the participants found the information provided to be both practical and valuable.
